Where is it made?
Where is it made?
The location of the printing plant that produced the book might not be the first thing you consider when making a “green” decision, but it may be the most important. Here’s why.

The Problem:
Books manufactured in the Far East are transported to the United States on container ships. According to a recent Wall Street Journal Article, entitled "Danger at Sea", these ships release more sulfur dioxide “than all of the world’s cars, trucks and busses combined.” They are also responsible for “producing an estimated 27% of the world’s smog-causing nitrogen oxide emissions.” Only six countries in the world produce more greenhouse gases than these ships.

The Solution:
Books that carry the Green Edition label are made in the United States, significantly reducing the need for international shipping. In many cases they are made within a few hundred miles of the retailers who sell them.
